Is Your Computer Running Slowly?
If you are experiencing a poor performance of your computer, or it’s running very slowly, chances are, you have too many errors in your registry, or it is too clogged.
All PC’s have a Windows registry – essentially a database of everything that happens on your computer. Old applications, browsing history, etc. If there is too much in your registry, it causes your PC to run poorly. Errors and unnecessary files often back up a computer’s registry, so It’s important to clean it out from time to time.
Symptoms of a Clogged Registry:
- Computer freezing
- Files take longer than they should to open
- Internet pages load very slowly
- Computer expiriences startup issues
- Computer crashing
- Blue screen of death
To effectively clean out your registry, you need a reputable and tested program that will identify registry errors and unneeded applications, and allow you to easily remove them out of your registry.
We’ve reviewed the top 5 registry cleaners.
We took the top 10 rated registry cleaners and tested them. Then narrowed it down to the 5 we found to be most effective.
From our research and testing, we’ve ranked these top-selling registry cleaning programs from our #1 recommended to our least favorite. Read our detailed reviews below.
RegCure has been a top selling registry cleaning software for several years now. It has a reputation of being highly effective and user friendly. RegCure really does point out all of your registry errors. Things you would never ever have thought could be contributing to your PC’s slow performance, such as missing program entires, or corrupt files in applications like Word, which can actually slow down, or freeze such applications.
Some of the use friendliness could be because of it’s well thought-out features, like creating an “ignore” list. This is a key feature that not every registry cleaner has, and it’s a very useful aspect. When the software scans for “errors” and the error is due to an invalid file – or basically something that you don’t want removed- you can mark it as ok and add it to the ignore list so the software won’t point out an error that you want left alone, as invalid. They also let you either manually select what is scanned and repaired, or allow you to have the software automatically scan everything and repair all errors. This program also lets you see all applications that are automatically launched when you start your computer, and it allows you to enable or disable certain application launches to allow for a faster startup.
You really do get peace of mind with RegCure, since they give you the option of a restoration point – in case something goes array during scanning and you need to restore the registry back to its previous state. You also have a 100% satisfaction guarantee, and technical support available to you. When we scanned our HP computer with RegCure and cleared out all unnecessary entries, we noticed a significant (probably 40-50%) increase in speed and computer processing, and our start-up time was almost cut in half. The great user-interface, easy of use, added features, and the effectiveness of this program left us feeling confident that RegCure would be our #1 recommendation.
This is such a great registry cleaner. It is VERY effective, and significantly increased one of my computer’s processing speed. It has 5/5 stars on cnet.com, and 4/5 on softpedia.com, both very reliable sources. The main reason it’s not our #1 recommended software is because the user-interface isn’t as simple. While it does have 1-click repair options, there are many of them, instead of the general “clear out all of my errors”. There are a lot of things it catches, and at first I had a hard time sifting through the “corrupt file” or “bad entry” type of errors.
This program has caught unique errors, that I haven’t noticed other registry cleaners catching, such as unused languages. Since this program is so legitimate and well praised, you can already be rest assured that any errors it finds, are actual errors, and they will be repaired. Therefore if you do your free scan, and it identifies multiple PC errors, you can repair these and you WILL notice an increase in computer speed. Detox My PC has awesome customer support, and a 60 day money back guarantee; although you will likely be satisfied, if you aren’t, you can return it. We have one Mac at our office, and we have used Detox My Mac, which is by the same developers, and we swear by it.
Our third choice for PC registry cleaning is Registry Easy. This software checks more errors than most of the other top registry cleaners. It incudes an Internet Explorer restore, and checks for invalid items that may be causing unnecessary errors, which adds to your system errors, thus slowing down your system. It has many unique features which are described below. It’s not quite as user friendly as Detox My PC or RegCure which caused us to rate it lower. It was effective at speeding up my computer’s registry, but it was probably more like 20-30% improved performance, as opposed to the 40-50% speed up I saw with the top two cleaners. I know this software has some good reviews, and I’m also a believer in its ability to clean a registry and speed up your computer, it’s just not my favorite. I do love the extra features like the file splitter. You can take your large files and easily reorganize them into smaller files.
This is a good software, and has expanded on some features that we find beneficial in a registry cleaner. An example of this is the Active Processes Manager, which shows you all of your active applications – most of which you don’t even know are running. This is one of the main reasons your computer runs slow, and why applications and browsers take a long time to load. This one wasn’t as effective, in our opinion, because the amount of errors it supposedly discovered wasn’t proportional to how the speed of my PC increased. I do enjoy the fact that this product has a 60 day money back guarantee, and their customer support team is great. All in all, this hasn’t been my favorite product, but it has promise. I might actually download it just to find out what applications are running in the backgrounds of our computers. That is an important aspect to speeding up a PC.
This is the supposed almighty registry cleaner. Its website will throw the “As Seen on TV” logo in your face a few times, and while this registry does its job decently, it doesn’t go above and beyond like its competitors. The scanning time is fairly quick, and gets faster after your first use (when your registry isn’t so clogged). This product, in my opinion, is not the best registry cleaner, because it doesn’t have the additional features you should look for. It doesn’t have file splitting, or an “ignore” list (so it finds errors that you may want it to skip over – just wasting a little bit of time). It is simple to use, and is very effective. I also don’t believe it overplays the amount of errors found on your system. I just recommend software that gives your more helpful features than are currently available to you.
